Registry Meeting

Representatives of the linguistic and cultural domains .gal, .eus, .cat, and .barcelona held a meeting on February 1st to share their future plans, commercial actions for this year, and market and network evolution forecasts. The four participating domains are also members of the GeoTLDs group, which brings together domains with geographic, linguistic, and cultural backgrounds, including .scot (Scotland), .london (London), or .bzh (Brittany) among others, and where common communication actions with the public or network governance bodies such as ICANN are carried out.

.gal, .eus, .cat, and .barcelona share their plans and perspectives with registrars in a working session.

The session began with a presentation by the director of Cidade das TIC, Alfonso Martínez, who spoke about the importance of new infrastructures and their relocation to enhance the value of ICT industries, as well as the importance of decentralizing regulatory agencies, citing the imminent opening of the AESIA in A Coruña as an example.

Domain Priorities

In the second part of the session, each domain discussed its current situation and plans for the remainder of 2024.

Topics such as the emergence of artificial intelligence, changes in European legislation, and user data protection were among those discussed. Issues like cybersecurity, domain efforts to achieve a safer network, and prospects for cooperation considering recent geopolitical changes were also addressed.

In the more immediate aspect, the possibility of launching joint commercial or branding actions during 2024 was discussed.

The meeting concluded after a working dinner with the intention of strengthening relations between registries and registrars.
