How can I request an ownership certificate for a .cat domain?

You can do it in two ways:

  1. Through the form you will find here.
  2. By sending us an email to suport@domini.cat requesting it. It is essential that the email is sent from the address that appears as the domain holder.

If you are the previous holder of a domain that is no longer active, you can also request the certificate, provided that the email from which you contact us is the one that appeared as the domain holder while it was active.

Why do I have to keep my ownership data up to date?

Because it is the guarantee that you can keep control of your domain and that you receive important communications related to it.

Specifically, keeping the data up to date ensures that you:

  • Receive renewal notices from your registrar on time and avoid the domain expiring due to oversight.
  • Can recover access to your account if at any point you lose your credentials, since the ownership email address is the main verification channel.
  • Are reachable if an incident is detected, a security problem or a relevant change in the Regulations that affects you.
  • Can prove your ownership before third parties, registrars or legal proceedings if ever needed.

For this reason, the Registration Regulations of the .cat domain establish that all data must be truthful, complete and up to date, and cannot be hidden under a privacy service that prevents direct contact with the holder.

If the ownership email is not operational or the data is incorrect, in extreme cases you may even lose the domain.

The .cat is a generic domain, that is, not defined in territorial terms. Therefore, we have developed its Regulations jointly with ICANN, and they are structured in two areas, both an integral part of the contract you accept when registering a .cat domain:

  • Dispute resolution procedures: regulate how disputes about the ownership or use of domains are managed.
