Carles Argelaguet is launching his first album and is clear that his digital presence must be in .cat. For him, there was no other option.

Carles Argelaguet knew from the very first moment how he wanted to exist on the Internet. With his first album about to come out, the .cat was not an option — it was the only possible answer.
Carles Argelaguet has spent roughly a year and a half building his project as a singer-songwriter. He has been writing his songs, recording them in a studio, and from this September his first singles will be released: Golfes and Quina merda és aquesta. To support the launch, a friend who works in IT built him a website. It all started, then, with one question: «what domain do you want?»
«Obviously, a .cat! I sing in Catalan — it makes no sense to me for it to be anything other than .cat. It is non-negotiable.»
We spoke with Carles to understand how a musician just starting out builds his digital presence, and why the .cat is, for him, a matter of consistency.
Can you tell us a bit about your project?
I have been a singer-songwriter for just over a year. I have been writing songs, recording them, and this autumn my first singles will come out. The website is the support I need for this launch: it features the concerts, the lyrics and thirty seconds of each track.
«It is a platform whose reach I do not yet know, but it gives the project a sense of seriousness.»
How did the decision to use a .cat domain come about?
There was no debate. «I make music in Catalan: if there is a domain called .cat, it seemed the most consistent choice. Anyone creating content in Catalan online should have one. I am absolutely certain about it.» He adds: «Music is culture, so it seems even more fitting to have a .cat.»

Does the .cat domain communicate something to your listeners about your music?
«Yes, of course. That I do it in Catalan.» For Carles, the domain extension is not a technical detail — it is the first message received by anyone who visits the website.
Has the .cat opened doors for you?
It is still too early to take stock — the album has not even come out yet — but Carles is optimistic: «I think it will open many. If you pitch a proposal to any festival or record label, it gives you a veneer of quality.»
What advice would you give to a young musician just starting out?
Carles acknowledges that he is still at the beginning and cannot yet make definitive assessments. «Anything you do online adds up, especially if it is well done and professional. I do not yet know how much this will add up for me.» Right now, his mind is on the music video for Golfes. The rest, he will see.
One song, one language, one .cat
For Carles Argelaguet, choosing the .cat was as natural as choosing the language he sings in. Because when the music is in Catalan, the web address should be too.
