How to send and receive emails from your .cat domain via Gmail

Set up your .cat email inside Gmail so you can send and receive from the same inbox. Step-by-step guide with screenshots.

Do you have a .cat domain and want your emails to arrive and be sent directly from your Gmail inbox? It’s simpler than it seems. In this guide we explain how to do it step by step.

To configure it, you will need:

1. An active Gmail account.

2. An email account created with your .cat domain. You can create this account with your hosting provider, which is often the same as your registrar. If you haven’t created it yet, you can do so from your registrar’s control panel.

3. The connection details for this account: the SMTP server, the port you will need to use and the password. You’ll find them in your registrar’s control panel, under the email section.

If you don’t know where to find these details: contact your registrar and ask for the SMTP configuration for your email account.

How to receive .cat emails in your Gmail:

With this configuration, emails arriving at your .cat address will appear directly in your Gmail inbox.

1. Open Gmail and click on the settings icon (the small cog in the top right corner) and click See all settings.

2. Go to the Accounts and Import tab.

3. Click Add an email address.

4. Enter your .cat address and click Next step.

5. Fill in the details you will be asked for:

  • SMTP server: enter mail.yourdomain.cat (this will depend on your email provider; you’ll find the information in your control panel).
  • Username: your full email address associated with your .cat domain.
  • Password: the password to access your .cat email.
  • Port: select the port indicated by your hosting provider; you’ll find the information in your control panel.
  • Tick the box «Secured connection using SSL».

6. Click Add account and follow the instructions to verify the connection.

7. You will receive an email at your .cat address with a confirmation link; follow the link and click «Confirm».

8. If you want to send emails from Gmail using your .cat domain as the sender, once you have completed this process, you can click «Reply from the same address the message was sent to».

Once configured, when you compose a new email in Gmail, you will see a dropdown next to the «From:» field that will let you choose whether to send from your Gmail or from your .cat. Handy, right?

You’ll now be able to use your .cat domain account through your Gmail.
